Selenite is a mineral composed of the chemical compound calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4·2H2O). It is a type of gypsum and is often found in evaporite deposits, such as those formed in caves by the evaporation of mineral-rich water. Selenite has a transparent to translucent appearance, and its crystal structure often exhibits a striated or fibrous pattern.

Selenite is commonly used in the manufacturing of plaster and wallboard, as well as in the construction of decorative objects and jewelry.
